Day 30: What You Think Made Buffy So Great
And so we come to the end of this meme. I feel like I should go out with a bang here and write a long essay about the greatness of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. But I don't think I will. Instead, here's my short reasoning as to why it's so great:
Women characters on screen, not just talking about boys, in a show that wasn't a romcom. Kicking ass and not being guilty about it. There was nothing else like this before Buffy came on our screens. Combine that with awesome dialogue, some really good character development and wonderful relationships and I was sold. The fact that the characters were women wasn't important. It was a sci -fi magic monster beat em up comedy drama tragedy apocalypse end of the world saving the world heart wrenching life affirming wonderful wonderful show.
Thanks for reading this everyone. I'd like to invite you to leave your thoughts on what made Buffy great, in the comments section.

Well said about Buffy the Vampire Slayer! :) What makes Buffy great to me is two things. First, the show is about empowerment. I loved that Buffy could kick butt against the monsters of the world. The show started when I was in high school, and it was great to see a show about the metaphor of hell as high school or bullies as monsters. The character also empowered other characters like the Scooby gang and the Potentials. Second, the show was relatable and I enjoyed empathizing with the characters.
Besides Buffy, another contemporary show in the 1990s was Xena Warrior Princess.
I've never seen Xena. I'm not sure I could watch it now - it seems very dated. Mind you, I think Buffy seasons 1and 2 are horribly dated now.
