Gym, health, weight, food, body worries, nutrition, fat, muscle and me

OK so here I am trying to compose a post about the gym, health, weight, food, body worries, nutrition, fat, muscle and me.  In it I will talk about my diet, my dieting, my daily calorie intake, my exercise routine, my thoughts about measuring bodies in numbers and the diet industry.
If you feel this may trigger or upset you please click away now.

Marriage, Thin Priviledge, deportation case

Yes I really should be working on presentation stuff, but it's late and I wanted to highlight a few posts that have appeared on the F Word blog recently:

On Marriage There follows an interesting discussion on the nature of marriage, it's symbolism, whether it's possible to have a feminist marriage, the distinctions between marriage and civil partnerships, perceptions of cohabiting couples vs married couples, next of kin arrangements, and so forth.
To all intents and purposes I am married. Me and the boyfriend haven't had the ceremony, and we won't, but we live as a married couple. People are well aware of our relationship, and our commitment to each other, yet people still ask when we're getting married and I have to defend my decision not to. If we were to get married I wouldn't be given away, I wouldn't take his name and I would remain a Ms. I probably wouldn't even wear a ring.
I can see the strength in declaring your commitment and love in front of your friends and gods, but there's too much baggage with the wedding ceremony and the connotations surrounding it for me to ever get married.
I do love going to other people's weddings though.

On Thin Privilege
Interesting. This post opened up a whole can of worms. The comments cover whether thin people are actually privileged (my view - yes, but that doesn't mean it's all kittens and joy), whether it's OK for thin people to come in and hijack a thread about fat people's experience of discrimination, how thin privilege operates, the role of gyms, the role of the diet industry, whether it can be tackled outside of a larger feminist framework, and the relationship (or not) with eating disorders.

So a warning : The post could be triggering to anyone with an ED.

If you can read it, it's well worth a read. My thoughts? Hell I've had enough of dieting I'm, gonna eat all the cake and chips and biscuits I want and if I get fat I don't give a shit. I've had it with worrying about my weight and the size of my stomach. I'm not gonna buy into that crap anymore. And deciding this, it's a really fucking liberating feeling. Not having to check the food labels in shops. Not working out how much and what I've eat each day to see if I can allow myself to eat a biscuit, to not have to convince myself not to feel guilty if I do. Liberating.

Deportation case
Sima Valand came to England several years ago with her husband. She was beaten and raped many times. She eventually went to the police, he is now in gaol, they are divorced and she is facing deportation. Despite the fact her family in India have told her they will cut her up and kill her if she returns.
How is deporting her even on the cards? Anyway, the comments show that women wrote to the airline requesting they don't fly her. And Ms Valand is still in the country. Who says activism doesn't work?

Things that are wrong

mm. Not to put a downer on the last post, I am still in a pretty good mood but me being me can't let things that aggravate me slip by.

Mika's song: Big Girl (you are beautiful). or more accurately the video.
So instead of fetishising skinny girls we're not fetishising fat girls? How is that better? I do get the sentiments of the song, honest I do, I know there are gorgeous fat girls out there, just like there are gorgeous skinny girls. But making it just about the fat? Or just about the skinny? How is that a good thing? Maybe I'm too cynical.

Apparently we gave Mugabe a knighthood. I'm quite frankly flabbergasted. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he's never had a good human rights record. And yes, damn right we should be taking it off him, but he should never have been given one in the first place.

Oh god. Should I even dissect this? I think there's a moral duty to do so but I think it should be perfectly fucking obvious why that article and headline is not acceptable. Should everyone offended by this crap explain why it's awful? Or is it enough to point out that it's hideously racist and xenophobic? What do people think? Oh and don't read the comments unless you want to get really angry.
On a side note:
"News of the security setback came as the Government yesterday admitted that installing 100 per cent airport-style screening at rail and Tube stations was “not feasible”."
Have the people writing this ever been to a London tube station? Jesus fucking H christ.

You know, I could spend all day highlighting the crap that goes on. But I won't. If I spend too much time on it I'll have sky high blood pressure.

Birthdays and bowels

Dan's told me to stop talking about my bowels, apparently it's a little bit gross. I think people are prudes. Anyway, I had my bowels washed out at the weekend. There's wasn't as much in there as I thought there would be But there again, how big can my bowels be? How much can they hold? I would have felt better if the lady doing so hadn't held a certificate from the National College of Holistic Medicine, (sounds a little Gillian McKeith-esque to me), saying she could do this, but no damage was caused, and psychologically speaking, it's nice to see all your shit taken out. To know that you're cleaner inside. I would be happy to have it done again, but maybe not with this particular lady.
And it took me two days to poop again, and it was a really good poop.

On to the other B subject, I am 28 today. No, I'm 27. Oops. Typo ahoy. Honest. You may wonder why I am on t'internet now instead of celebrating or boozing it up. Well, I dislike celebrating birthdays. It makes me uncomfortable. I'm happy making them like every other day. But with less of the going to work action. There has been chocolate, but no booze. In keeping with my booze free plan. And diet plan. I've lost a stone now. So I'm now back at roughly what I was a year ago. How depressing. Well, maybe in a month I could be at 9 stone 7. That would be awesome. I've never been 9st7.
