Strange how he's basically dismissing his own company's output. I'm guessing what he means is that Marvel doesn't have any real big-name female characters, which is arguably true (when I think of female superheroes who are household names, I think of Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Catwoman - all DC), but I don't see how this should rule out film adaptations. How many people, aside from comic fans, know who the Green Lantern is - let alone Punisher, Ghost Rider, or Blade? Are Misty Knight or She-Hulk really that much less marketable as film characters?
This kind of attitude just shows a lack of imagination on the part of the publishers and/or producers. Yes, previous big screen efforts have been less than successful but that's largely because the actresses have been chosen for their looks rather than their acting ability, and because they've been given lousy scripts to work with.
For proof that it CAN be done, I'd suggest these people watch the TV series of Witchblade and Birds of Prey. They were both less than stellar and some of the cast in BoP was dire, but the performances of Yancy Butler as Sarah Pezzini and Dina Meyer as Barbara Gordon/Oracle/Batgirl were superb.
The actresses are out there, the studios just need to cast them!
It certainly was a novel way to dodge the question, and to insult women characters AND actresses into the bargain.
