Tired, frustrated, stressed

I definitely have to take a break from blogging.  I can't cope with everything I feel I have to do and I need to reduce my (self imposed) pressures.  Being unemployed hit me somewhat harder than I thought it would do and I'm having difficulty with working out how to do the simplest things, like organising my day or looking up bus times.  One of the most important goals I have is to not end up a quivering depressed wreck.  Been there, done that, took several years getting over it, not planning to go back there again.  I sort of feel like I'm living the spoon theory, except that I'm not that bad yet.

So, I'm stopping blogging at this site until I've got a job, or until I'm able to manage everything.  There may be the odd post but on the whole I'm quitting for a while.  I may try and do the occasional post for New readers... but, I won't promise anything.

  1. Pai, you might want to consider doing some volunteering somewhere (if you don't already) with a charity or organisation whose aims you believe in. It might be good for your mental health to have some structure to your week and people to talk to, even if it is unpaid. Plus, it might be good for the old CV and/or lead to a job opportunity!

I think the isolation and sense of worhtlessness that can come from unemployment can really fuck with a person's head, and for some people, volunteering helps with these issues.

  2. You will be missed in the blogosphere that's for sure.

Keep your head up! I am sure you will find what you need in life and get a renewed vitality.

  5. good luck. It's so important to take care of oneself and if dropping this blog for a while helps, then certainly you should. I also believe in the cleansing power of a good cry. Tears is (are?) stress leaving the body.

I also agree that volunteering can be good. It provides some structure, even if it's only an hour a day, you get to meet new people and new contacts and maybe a job lead.

The upside (if you can call it that) is that you're not the only one out of work and so there's no shame in having a gap in your resume at this time and having a volunteer job shows that you still are doing something.

Alas, beer or wine drinking and TV watching still does not belong on a resume. Unless you're a wine and TV critic.

    Good luck and take care.

  6. *hugs*

I'm really sorry to hear you're feeling so bad! I know what havoc being unemployed can wreak on a person's mind and I wouldn't wish it on anybody.

I agree that volunteering might help, both with mental health and your CV/finding job opportunities.

I'll look forward to your return to the blogosphere, but please don't feel at all bad about needing to take a break! *hugs* Take care of yourself.

  7. Hang in there, Saranga, and take the opportunity to rest and do things that you weren't able to do because you were employed. Don't beat yourself up -- focus instead on doing things that you find interesting. Volunteering somewhere is a good idea, and is also a good way to do some networking. Who knows -- you may find the job of your dreams that way. :-)

And, by all means, feel free to come online just to VENT every once and a while! A lot of us have been where you are, and we're more than willing to listen. :-)

  8. Hang in there, Saranga! I hope things turn around for you soon. :) The spoon theory is such an apt metaphor for so many things.
